Training Fellowships
Apply for the Bola Awotedu and Cas Motala/Nutricia Training Fellowship
The Allergy Foundation of South Africa and Allergy Society of South Africa are proud to open applications and facilitate 2 paediatric allergy training fellowships of 2 weeks duration situated at selected training units in Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The 2024 value of each Fellowship is R25 000 of support for the grantholder to cover flights, accommodation and training materials.
The candidate must be a South African citizen under 40 years of age working in the public health service of a rural area of South Africa as a doctor, nurse or dietician.
About Bola Awotedu
Professor Abolade Awotedu was a respected pulmonologist who spent much of his life working in the Eastern Cape. He passed away on the 26th of July 2017. His family and friends have raised funds for this scholarship in his name, to allow young professionals from rural areas of the country to access training that will allow them to continue the types of educational and service programs that Prof Awotedu was so passionate about.
About Cas Motala
Professor Cas Motala was a central pillar of the allergy community both in South Africa and internationally. He established the Allergy Society of South Africa, served as its chair for 2 terms and was the first South African to serve on the board of the World Allergy Organisation. He was instrumental in developing and implementing the Diploma in Allergology examination of the College of Medicine of South Africa, and contributed to the submission to the Health Professions Council to have allergology recognised as a sub-speciality. Cas passed away on the 10th of November 2010.
